Background

The Driver;

Gísli G. Jónsson is an experienced Formula Offroad Driver in Iceland, a legend returning to the tracks.

Icelandic National Championship title: 1993 and then five year consecutively from 1997-2001. World Cup Championship title: 1993, 1994,1995, 1999, 2001 and 2006. Driver of the Year in Iceland 1993 and 1999.  In the year 2006, after a two year break, he won the Norden Cup and World Cup, racing in Finland and Norway in September.

In 2012 Gísli G. Jónsson competed in the NEZ cup in Akureyri. But then he parked the car for some years until the motorsport went across the sea and to the USA. He there raced in the 2nd Icelandic Formula Offroad in USA competition that was in 2017 and boy did he show them how to drive! On Friday he was on top of his game and was in 1st place after 6 tracks in Bikini Bottoms Offroad Park, but unfortunately ended in 9th place due to some mechanical failures.

In 2018 he will return yet again and compete in the 1st round of the Icelandic Formula Offroad Championship on Hella. Its been 10 years since he last raced in that area so we'll see if the champ still knows how to put on a show!

The Car;

Back in 1991 I borrowed a car from a friend, Steinar Hauksson, then bought it from him, built the Pink Panter and sold it.

In 1992 I bought the Jeepster, previous owners Haraldur Ásgeirsson, Guðbergur Guðbergsson, Jón S and Árni Grant who I bought it from. Through the years some minor changes have been made to the car, in 1997, 2012 and now in 2017. And a fresh coat of paint.
